Diligence is a virtue that cannot be acquired, but it only be perceived to be acquired through practice. It is a repetitive action of action. To act, you need energy, so can someone who is low in energy be more diligent than someone who is high in energy? No because the person with higher energy has higher capacity to act more. But, if that high energy person chooses not to act, then there’s a possibility that the person with lower energy who acts is more diligent.
Diligence must be shown through action, and willingness alone cannot prove diligence.
An element of diligence that we are born with is capacity. Therefore, those of us who are physically gifted with good health and great physical capacity are truly blessed. How we use our naturally-born-gifts determine what we do and what kind of person we become.
Can someone who is born with poor healthy and low physical capacity become diligent? Yes, through the desire to grow once’s capacity and the willingness to put in work, followed by proaction, one can consistently act and increase their capacity to become diligent.
Willingness and desire are the precursors to action. Physically, we are all born with inequalities in different physical advantages and disadvantages. However, the one equal trait that we are all born with is willful choice. Our will determines how responsible we want to be for ourselves, and by this I mean our “response-ability”.
