Hunters and Nurturers: The Mental Drivers of our Society

There are two types of purpose-driven mentalities in the world: hunters and nurturers. Hunting is associated with masculinity and nurturing with femininity, but a female can be a hunter and a male a nurturer.

Hunters tend to be achievement-driven to feel important. Being highly achievement-driven can make hunters look selfish through money-hungriness and being overactive. We all know a person that fits this description. Hunters fulfill their personal purpose by achieving first, to help people second — they help through providing.

Nurturers tend to be support-driven in order to feel important. When there is no one in nurturer’s social circle to help, nurturers can seem selfish because of inactivity and passivity. We all know a person that fits this description. Nurturers are the first ones to be there for their families and friends when someone is in need. Nurturers help first, to achieve second — they provide through helping.

Hunters and nurturers are selfish in their own ways, and it would be controversial to argue that one is more or less selfish.

People tend to judge another’s character based on action than thoughts.
